Facial Rejuvenation

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation is a big part of looking and feeling your best. At the Wellness Center, several techniques are used to combat the signs of the aging face. To correct anything we first must understand why something occurs. Aging, genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors cause change in the normal youthful appearance.

Plastic surgeons and aesthetic specialists refer to the accumulation of these effects at the Four Dimensions of Aging or the Four D’s, and include Deterioration, Deflation, Descent, and Dynamic Lines. Focusing on how all of the four D’s can affect a patient leads to a natural and complete improvement, often using several different techniques for a single patient.

The Four D’s:

1. Deterioration involves changes in skin tone, color, pore size, and thickness and is due to loss of collagen, sun damage, dehydration, and toxins associated with smoking, environmental exposure, and alcohol use.

2. Deflation involves loss of volume in the face. This occurs in the structures underlying the skin including fat, muscle, and bone. Loss of volume leads to the appearance of “jowls”, thinning of the lips, deflated cheeks, and “marionette lines” at the sides of the mouth.

3. Descent occurs due to the loss of collagen and elasticity and is seen as sagging. This is most notable around the eyelids, eyebrows, and cheeks.

4. Dynamic Lines occur due to the repeated use of the 43 muscles found in the face. Many of these muscles are used to chew, speak, and show emotion on a daily basis.

To correct the Four D’s, we use a combination of modalities. Dynamic lines respond well to judicious use of botulinum toxin A. To improve volume and affect deflation, dermal fillers prove an excellent tool. Descent and Deterioration respond well to rejuvenation with Platelet Rich Plasma. No two faces are alike and no two faces need the same treatment. A careful evaluation will be performed and an individualized treatment plan will be offered.
